The Search for Freedom – Film Review

The Search For Freedom is a beautifully filmed documentary, that explores the lifestyle and decisions of extreme sports athletes, pioneers and champions. The documentary is top of our ‘go to watch list’ when looking for inspiration and motivation, to keep exploring the world and doing what you love doing.

That’s exactly why we wanted to share it with our readers and hope it has the same effect for you. If you’re looking for more travel videos, check out our Top 5, Inspirational Travel Videos.

The documentaries synopsis really captures the essence of story in just the first line:

The Search for Freedom is the story of a cultural revolution fueled by the human desire to live in the moment and do what makes you feel the most alive”. We discover how an electrifying new world came about through pure energy and imagination and the infinite possibilities of self-expression available to anyone willing to drop in”.

Essentially, the documentary is a construction of interviews and epic montage footage. The footage is focussed around surfing, snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, mountain biking and much more. A great soundtrack compliments the film, paired with ample artistic shots, and vibrant landscapes that leave you with a desire to want to see more. See what we’re talking about with the cinematography…but what we really love is the message the film portrays. Living in the moment and confining yourself to the present. The athletes and legends that feature in the film, truly think in a differently way to the rest of the planet. Exploring the focus and drive that allows these athletes to push the boundaries of what is considered possible…that is what we really love, what makes it different.

In addition to the storytelling of the athletes, The Search for Freedom tells the story of how extreme sports were created. This adds a second dimension to the film’s action packed footage and appeal. We see insights into the rise in popularity of surfing, big mountain boarding and the creation of wingsuit flying. Interesting stories told by inspirational people, for example, Bob McKnight explains Quicksilver’s humble beginnings from pop up board short stores, to becoming the largest surf brand in the world.

The cast is pretty impressive too, including big name like Tony Hawk, Kelly Slater, Kai Lenny, Kelia Moniz Robbie Madison and Nyjah Huston. One of our favourite scenes features Kai Lenny and Robby Nash, paddle boarding some pretty big waves, with a great voice over. Pretty magic stuff! We found a teaser of the exact scene and have shared it below, check it out.

Kai Lenny – Eight-time world champion stand up paddle boarder.

In Summary, if you’re looking for a feel good film that will get you stoked for your next trip, The Search For Freedom is for you. With beautiful footage, storytelling and a great soundtrack, it’s an easy watch that will get you itching to book up your next holiday. You can download or buy the film from most major online stores, and we’d gladly rate the film a healthy 8/10.
